Data Holdings

The ALOS satelite operated between 2006 and March 2011.  Most of the data obtained for this project dates between the years 2007 - 2010 and covers the island of Sumatra. It was mostly preprocessed by JAXA to level 1.5 which includes slant-range corrections and geocoding but no DEM correction for terrain. A limited number of 1.1 level single-look complex (SLC) data is held.

Fine Beam Dual data contains HH and HV polarised amplitude images at a resolution of 12.5m (see example). ScanSAR data is HH polarised amplitude only with a resolution of 100m (see example). Our FBD holdings are is summarised in a schematic Data map which is a grid of path and frame numbers for each scene. Individual images for each scene are identifies by the cycle number rather than the exact date. For information about cycle numbers see the ALOS acquisition maps: Ascending   and   Descending.

An Excel spreadsheet gives a more complete, and searchable, record of FBD and ScanSAR data. This also includes code for parsing the ALOS identifier for the image (e.g. ALPSRP123531040) to path frame and cycle number. Just enter a new name in the "A" column and then click, hold and drag the bottom right corner of the cell along the row. One worksheet is called "sorting" - I used this to copy and paste data from another sheet so that it could be sorted by path, frame, or cycle.
